The life of K-9 Samson is filled with several firsts, his service to the community and his Handler Tim Przytulski is an inspiring story that shows what a difference one K-9 can make.
K-9 Samson was born on March 31st, 2008 of working dog bloodlines. His future owner had just purchased one of the largest apartment complexes in the state of Michigan. The complex was the scene of assaults, robberies and homicides, occupancy in the complex was at 38 percent. The new owner, vowing to clean up the complex, was soon the victim of several death threats. The owner made the decision that he needed a German Shepherd trained to police standards.
At the age of 11 months, Samson began his Police K-9 training, and after several months, began patrolling the complex. Samson was cross-trained in Patrol and Narcotics Detection and later Nationally certified through the National Association of Professional Canine Handlers.
Samson proved so effective at crime deterrent and criminal apprehension that soon a second K-9 team was added, as well as a third, fourth and fifth K-9 team. Being partnered with Handler Tim Przytulski, K-9 Samson began locating narcotics and assisting Southfield Police and undercover units with search warrants and arrests. During one such search warrant K-9 Samson help locate 67 bags of marijuana and a loaded handgun.
On November 10th 2011 K-9 Samson and Handler Tim Przytulski received word of a suspect armed with a semi-automatic handgun and a hammer stating her intent to kill all neighboring residents. Due to the immediacy of the situation, the team made the decision to engage the suspect who then fled to the 8th floor. Handler Tim and K-9 Samson also proceeded to the 8th floor with the suspect fleeing to her apartment. Southfield Police soon arrived and along with Handler Tim and K-9 Samson were able to take the suspect into custody without a single shot being fired.
This complex, which was infested with crime and only 38 percent occupied, now has a waiting list of people who want to live there……it all started with K-9 Samson.
The same K-9 program which was started with K-9 Samson has now been duplicated in the State of Maryland, and next month will be started in the State of Washington D.C.
In the summer of 2016 Samson began slowing down and showing some minor lameness. That same Fall Samson’s hip became dislocated and he was rushed to the veterinarian. After x-rays if was found that both hips were so badly deteroriated that Samsom would no longer be able to walk without extreme pain. It was at that time the very difficult and painful decision was made.
What a difference one dog made…what a difference K-9 Samson has made to so many people.
